We'll be known as "The Helpful Store", "The Friendly Store", "The Store with a Heart"

Miracle.jpg“We’ll be known as “The Helpful Store”, “The Friendly Store”, “The Store with a Heart.”  This quote is from the classic holiday movie, Miracle on 34th Street”.  (the 1947 version)  For those who have seen this movie, please bear with me while I give a quick synopsis to those less fortunate.  Basically, the movie is about a kindly older man who "plays" Santa at Macy’s Department Store. (What led up to this is hysterical!) He truly believes he is the actual Santa Claus.  The movie takes some funny/some heartfelt turns and along the way Kris Kringle has to argue, with the help of his attorney, he is Santa Claus and in turn prove his sanity.

When I think of this movie, I think about our mission at the Riverside County Law Library. In the movie Kris Kringle began directing customers to other stores (i.e. the competitors) if Macy’s didn’t have what the customer was looking for. Allegorically, the Riverside County Law Library IS Macy’s!  We will provide you with a wealth of information provided in our library and if divergent resources are needed we will direct you to where you can fill your needs as best as possible.

Case in point:  Criminal Expungement

On our website www.rclawlibrary.org, you can access our criminal expungement research guide.  What I’m really proud of is the resources we direct you to not in our library. Some are:

The Riverside County Superior Court – There you can find a packet where you can fill in needed forms like Petition for Dismissal, and Proof of Service with instructions. Or will direct you to Inland Empire Latino Lawyers Association. IELLA explains the expungement procedure and has listings of clinics available. We’ll refer you to the Public Defender, which has useful information. One of my go to favorites is the Sacramento County Public Law Library. Yes, a different county law library! They have a real nice section on criminal expungement with links to the codes involved.  There are also step-by-step instructions to determine eligibility, which type of expungement would fit the situation, how to file forms, and what to do is denied.

As you can see – we offer a wealth of information other than what is available at our library. We are that helpful, friendly store with a heart!

And for those of you who don’t know how the movie ends, I don’t want to spoil it but I will tell you, there’s an interesting legal element of authoritative evidence to prove if Kris Kringle is Santa Claus!
