Safety Planning
"Safety Planning" refers to actions that can be taken to help lower the risk of being hurt while in an intimate partner violence relationship. They are preparedness tools to increase the safety in your daily life and routines. Use this tool from the National Domestic Violence Hotline to begin creating your own safety plan.

Some example Safety Plan steps to keep in mind are:

  • Using code words to share with family, friends, or neighbors in case of an emergency.
  • Finding safe public places to go to in an emergency (e.g. a library, McDonalds, police station).
  • Knowing which important items to take with you if you need to leave a place quickly (e.g. identification, cell phone, medication, change of clothes, health insurance card).
