Legal Databases

The following databases are available for use by the public via on-site or home access. Scroll down to the database of your choice for access instructions.

Home Access: Currently, the following 6 databases offer remote (at home) use: Westlaw Pro Se, EBSCOhost, HeinOnline, Wolters Kluwer’s VitalLaw, and Gale OneFile: LegalTrac.

On-site: for a database listed as being available on-site, the database can be accessed inside the library at any RCLL location via the public access computers or over WiFi

Westlaw is a legal research system that makes searches more intuitive and efficient. Search options include advanced searching, plain language searching, KeyCite, and a extensive narrowing capability. Our subscription allows access to California & Federal primary law as well as many secondary resources published by West. Most results may be printed, downloaded, or emailed.

Lexis Research System provides an expansive collection of online content. Search options include advanced searching, plain language searching, and Shepard's citations. Our subscription allows access to California & Federal primary law as well as many secondary resources published by Lexis. Most results may be printed, downloaded, or emailed.

Powerful online research of CEB practice guides. Our subscription includes digital versions of most of our print collection. The database is conveniently organized by legal topic and print title. Results can be printed.

State trial court research + analytics platform w/ AI insights on judges, opposing counsel, motions, dockets, and more. Use this source to find real examples of various types of motions and verdict amounts by jurisdiction. Users may search by issue, party, judge, or motion type. Court documents are available as PDFs with the ability to download, print, or share via email. Users can also view state codes, statutes, and regulations and set email alerts on cases, parties, judges, or topics to stay up to date on pending actions.

HeinOnline is the world’s largest image-based legal research collection and contains more than nine centuries of legal history. All content is image-based in PDF format just as they appear in the original print copy, thus preserving the authenticity of the hard copy in a digital environment.

Forms WorkFlow offers the largest forms database in the country. It streamlines the management and use of forms and provides instant access to a centralized library of more than 60,000 forms including official electronic court forms, corporate, regulatory, and legal forms. Forms can be downloaded as fillable Word or PDF files.

LLMC is a non-profit cooperative of libraries dedicated to preserving legal titles and government documents on film, while making copies inexpensively available either in microfiche format or digitally through its on-line service LLMC-Digital. LLMC provides libraries with a reliable, budget-friendly source of film and/or digital replacement when their older, physically deteriorating books become too burdensome to store given diminished use.
